Product & Concept
Overall Project Goal
Build an online marketplace for (used) books where sellers can post and buyers can purchase.
Concept Description
Combine an enhanced meta-search and booklist or store in one and build it with multimedia rich features.
Main Features and Functions (Products and Services)
  • Antique and Second Hand Books Platform Merchant offering.
  • Auction Platform for Books.
  • Enhanced Search Engine.
Differentiators to Current Online Services
  • State of the Art Multimedia Features and Tools for both merchants and buyers
  • No listing fees for Merchants
  • Enhanced Statistics and Usage Data offered to merchants
Open Bidding As Additional Differentiator
In addition to the time limited/set bidding, a new feature is planned which is called repetitive or open bidding.
Repetitive or open bidding would leave enable a book on auction until the owner decides for the most suitable price
and then end the auction and sell the book.
Target Groups
There are three main groups of customers:
Category A:
Buyers who are willing to spend up to 100-200 Euro on books
which are no longer available in regular book stores and/or out of print.
These people are not necessarily heavy internet users, but they do have experience with buying online products.
Also students can be included in this category, however, they do tend to have a larger affinity with the internet and with internet purchases.
Category B:
Buyers who are willing to spend up to 1000 Euro on books, who could be called light collectors or small book dealers or also institutions like libraries.
This group of buyers tends to be quite internet savvy and regularly screen the internet for interesting books to collect in their field of interest or book dealers buy books for resale either on other online sites or in their own book stores.
Category C:
Buyers who are willing to spend +1000 Euro on books.
This group of buyers are either heavy collectors or they are themselves book traders or institutions like libraries. They constantly look for available deals on online platforms.
Business Model
Two main business models (online shops and online auctions) address customers as follows:
A.
The Online shop solution is mainly focused on category A and B customers.
It provides these customers with an easy searchable and with multimedia supported environment.
In addition, the integrated database search in the online shop and auctions together with a metasearch function that scans other platforms and auction sites, provides these customers with a 360° view of possible available books.
B.
Our auction solutions are mainly focused on category B and C customers.
These customers tend to require much more visual and clear information on their future purchases.
These customers are most of the time very well informed about the particular books they want to acquire and they want to understand and need very detailed both visual and written information on the condition of their valued books.
Customer Convenience
Service Concept
A partner for the delivery of books will be selected from the global express delivery companies.
The Partner will be selected mainly based on service differentiation, customer care and feature-rich online services.
The services would have to include enhanced selfcare e-CRM features, such as status/stage and location tracking and additional list of features and services.
User Payment
Offer a wide variety of payment methods provided by a payment provider such as CQR.
A partnership with CQR is sought.
Merchant Payment
Merchants will be required to pay charges and fees through Credit Card payment.
This is mainly aimed at controlling the administrative costs.
